Be A Beach Bum This Summer..You Deserve It

We're excited to announce our latest creation, the Beach Bum bag. It's a perfect companion to haul all your necessities to the beach all summer long. It's hot just like the summer.

We created something to symbolize where Organik started and show our love for 100% Kona coffee. We teamed up with a local coffee farmer to create this wonderful piece and at the same time support local farmers.

The Beach Bum features recycled Kona coffee burlap, recycled inside liner, storage pouch, and handles made of sail rope. Plus, it's all handmade in the USA.

The Honolulu Advertiser did a write up on the Beach Bum in the Island Life/From the Hip section in today's edition. The Beach Bum is available at www.TheOrganik.com.

No coffee beans included!

Bret Surfboards Hawaii...Exclusive to the Green Room

We are stoked for the Green Room to be the exclusive dealer on the Big Island for Bret Surfboards Hawaii. These boards are handshaped in Sunset Beach on the North Shore of Oahu. Bret shapes surfboards for many of the WCT pros.
We brought in a handful of summer shapes just in time for the south swells of summer.
Here's what we have in stock for the moment:
5'8" fish featuring green foam blanks
5'10 shortboard with diamond tail (not for sale! this one is for custom shaped for me)
6'0 shortboard with diamond tail
6'0 shortboard with round pin
We also have surf leashes made with recycled PET and green label surf wax (reason it's called the Green Room)
We also accept custom orders for Bret surfboards which take 2 weeks from start to finish.

Here's the scoop on the Green Foam Blanks:

Here's the formula for the eco performance model....It starts with GREEN BLANK that is 50% recycled surfboard waste from the shaping room ...then the freshly shaped surfboard blank is glassed with eco sysytem resin that contains a reusable resource in it. This resin also has a U.V. inhibitor in it for the curing process which uses ultra violet lighting to dry the boards. Having this additive in the glassing process also helps to eliminate harmful VOCS into the atmosphere. We also use recycled acetone for cleaning up. This process is the first step into getting the surfboard industry involved in the green movement......Bret Surfboards Hawaii

New instore Displays..Alligator Funkhouse & Kawaihae Surf & Sand

I set up an in store display at our Big Island account called the Alligator Funkhouse in Kona. Matt & Laine are the owners who throw big parties for the kids most Fridays & Saturdays with b-boy battles and DJ's spinning the 1's & 2's. Organik has its own little section in this streetwear store featuring 25 different t-shirt brands.
Matt & Laine wanted to celebrate the summer collection at the Alligator Funkhouse this past Saturday with food and beer along with the b-boys and DJ battles.
It's always a blast debuting the latest designs and educate consumers about what they're buying.

Kawaihae Surf & Sand is the newest addition to the Organik stockists list on the Big Island. This beachy-vibe store features beach apparel & accessories as it sits across the street from Kawaihae Harbor in Kohala. Support your local Organik dealer!

The Green Room presented by Organik

Aloha! We're excited to announce the opening of the Green Room art gallery & Organik showroom located at 73-5580 Maiau St. Unit G, Kailua-Kona, HI 96740 (bldg. just below Costco). We have appointment only hours for now. Look for the Green Room sign to see if we're in the space.

Local artists include Jeremiah Nathan, Mike Cerrone and George Hill. Check out their artwork including skateboard art, photography & paintings. Look for new artists to be featured in the near future.

We had a kick ass soft opening with friends of Organik last Saturday with pupus, wine & Deschutes Green Lakes certified organic beer. Thank goodness for having an intern here for two weeks. We put Michele to work with choosing colors, painting, decorating, marketing and organizing the Green Room soft opening in only ten days from start to finish.

We also brought in Bret Surfboards Hawaii handshaped on the North Shore of Oahu. For all the non-surfers, the "Green Room" is slang for getting barreled or tubed. It also represents the products showcased in the gallery. We're more stoked and lucky to have a Bret Surfboard 5'8" fish made with Green Foam. It's actually made with recycled foam scraps and shavings that are recycled into anto surfboard blank. We also have a few 6'0" Bret shortboards in stock. If you want a custom Bret shape or want to pick up a stock board, you now know where to go. The other "green" surf products are Wavetribe leashes made with recycled plastic, Famous eco-friendly surf wax and Organik past season designs and seconds.

Check out the pics of the festivities and stayed tuned to find out the latest events. I hope you get to experience the green room.

Shootz! Welcome to the Green Room.

Whole Foods Kahala......Window Display

We're lucky to have Michele, a fashion merchandising college intern for the summer. She's had an action packed two weeks on the Big Island. We took a trip to Oahu for the day and got lots accomplished while we toured the whole island. We visited Global Creations, an Organik account on the North Shore. Next stop was the Free Surf Magazine office to pick up a box of magazines for the Green Room gallery (oops! I spilled the beans). Then, we stopped at Bret Surfboards at Sunset Beach to see the quiver for the Green Room (ooops! There we go again). Brett is a super rad shaper from the North Shore of Oahu. He handshapes surfboards for many of the world tour surfers. He's a great guy and the Green Room is an exclusive dealer for his boards. One the boards for the Green Room is a 5'8" fish which is perfect for summer and features recycled foam and is appropriately called Green Foam. Recycled foam scraps and shavings from shaping a handmade surfboard are recycled to make a new surfboard.

Here's the 5'8" fish with Green Foam getting glassed to be shipped the next day.

This is Ed's custom handshaped 5'10" Bret Surfboards diamond tail in the UV room to cure.

We settled up with the Bret to get the five boards shipped to Kona for the Saturday grand opening of the Green Room. Next stop is Kua'aina in Haleiwa for lunch. Now off to Whole Foods in Kahala to set up a window display. Whole Foods gave us a 3 panel screen to display our work of art.

Here's Michele taking charge of executing the window display with our beach theme with sea glass, shells, recycled rope, and posters.
40 minutes later and we have a finished display. Look how wonderful it looks.
I personally found the glass and rope at secret location on the Big Island.
Here's Michele and I with the finished Organik window display. Hope you get to see it in person at Whole Foods in Kahala Mall.

Cheers!
