October 11 2008 at 7 am marked the start of the Ironman Triathlon Championships in sleepytown Kailua-Kona. 8 hrs and minutes later, the first place men's winner crossed the finish line. These superheroes finished a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike & marathon run all in one day's work for most humans. To make it even worse, they didn't even look exhausted, carrying lots of speed and ready for the next event. None of this Ironman makes sense to me. Even many 70 something year olds finished the event before the 12:00 am end. Here's a pic of the finish line crowd just before the end. No chance of me quitting my day to train for this.
