We just created new store signage and posted on our Facebook Fan Page for store personnel to download and print. We made displays focusing on our summer collection with marketing information about each material in the photo. Our theme is nautical and titled Sirens + Sailors. We're sailing in New England this August to promote Organik, visit our retailers and set up pop-up shops during the ten day tour. We'll be loaded with stand up paddle boards, surfboards along with wine and cheese for our VIPs.

Recycled Plastic Bottles

Our new cut and sew crew neck heather blend tees are made with plastic from post-consumer recycled plastic soda bottles. 6 plastic bottles are saved from landfills and used to make each Organik t-shirt. That's impressive because our heather blend tees are fifty percent recycled polyethylene terephthalate (RPET) and fifty percent organic cotton that is grown with without toxic chemicals and pesticides. We've up the game this year by producing these t-shirts and all of our apparel in the USA. We also increased the percentage of recycled plastic from thirteen percent to fifty percent, which is a huge undertaking and commitment for us.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), two-thirds less energy is required to manufacture products made from recycled plastic.

Other benefits to using products made from recycled plastic include:

reducing sulphur dioxide

nitrous oxide

water usage in production

dependence on oil

reduce landfill waste

reduce environmental pollution

FBI X Organik Collaboration

We just released a super limited edition Organik X From Big Island collaboration t-shirt. This past winter, Ossian of FBI and I were surfing Pine Trees in Kailua Kona. He asked me when we're gonna do a collaboration project, but I thought he was kidding. This was serious matter and I was humbled by the opportunity to work with the FBI originator. In case you were wondering, FBI is a huge deal in Kona with every surfer and teen wearing an FBI shirt, trucker hat or sticker slapped on a surfboard or truck.

I went over to the FBI office and we brainstormed the shirt material, color and artwork design. We printed less than fifty of this original design on our cut and sew polyester/organic cotton blend in heather dark grey. FYI, the polyester is made from recycled plastic bottles. Since polyester is made from plastic, six plastic bottles are reused to create this heather blend. The remaining half is made from 100% certified organic cotton, which is cotton grown without any chemicals or pesticides. All of our new cut and sew garments are proudly made in the U.S.A. The collabo design is printed by hand using waterbased inks. The overall look and feel is vintage softness.

Finally, we're stoked to introduce to you an original design by FBI X Organik.

I survived Coachella, visited friends in San Diego, went to cool spots throughout the town and met fun people. On Thursday, Brian and I traveled to San Francisco for our Sirens and Sailors party that went down on Saturday night at Terroir. We ate at amazing restaurants, drank prohibition style cocktails at some renowned bars, rode bikes around the city and met more rad people. Kevin, our Big Island / San Francisco friend, gave a Brian, Mark and I a tour around San Francisco.

Thank you to our Facebook fans for choosing the colors for our summer collection of women's bamboo and organic cotton fashion forward t-shirts: Sirens and Sailors. We're inspired by nature so we chose a sea glass color palette to support our mission to preserve green and natural life. The winning colors chosen by our fans are marine blue, sea green, coral and vintage black.

I've spent many hours traveling to remote spots on the Big Island of Hawaii in search of nature's treasures. There are so many shapes, sizes and colors of sea glass that wash up on the different colored sandy beaches. It's so beautiful to see the contrast of sea glass washed up on black or green colored sand. Sea glass becomes round, smooth and has a frosted appearance as it spends more time in the ocean.

Our cut and sew bamboo t-shirts will be dyed in the sea glass inspired colors using low-impact dyes which have fewer chemicals and require less rinse water that helps protect our environment. Look for these shirts to be released in May with original artwork screenprinted by hand so no two shirts are alike while using water-based inks for a soft hand, vintage look and feel.

BWareville had a grand opening party last night with a great group of people, home brewed beer from the north shore, and Root Hub playing irie acoustic music. BWareville houses BWare, 1979 and Organik. Check it out at 1165 Smith Street in downtown Honolulu.
The after party happened down the street at Next Door with our own VIP room with DJ Matt Ratt. The Jumpoffs and the Deadbeats rocked the main room.

Being a surfer, I don't think it's ever easy to turn a head when you hear of another surfer passing away. Weather they were a top ASP World Tour competitor, Pipeline specialist, big wave charger, video/photo surfer, or even just one of the locals at your local spot; when you hear of their untimely passing it always hits close to home.
Sion may have only recently started to gain media recognition for his accomplishments in surfing, but for a long time I have always heard his name on the surface...especially when it came to surfing big waves. I've seen photos and video footage of waves he has ridden and 99% of those waves would put fear in any surfers eyes, but watching him ride them and seeing his composure you would think he was riding a wave no bigger than 5ft. It seemed effortless and controlled no matter how late or critical his take offs were. He was truly a gifted person...
More than just a big wave charger, he was a family man raising two daughters with his wife Suzi. From the articles I've read since his passing, it seemed he always made sure his family was taken care of before he went out to surf. My condolences, deepest sympathy, and warmest wishes go out to his family and friends. Sion will forever ride the biggest waves in our hearts and memories and so will his legendary status as one of the premier big wave riders ever. Aloha Sion Milosky

Sunday, March 6, 2011 was the final stop of the Hawaii Island Surfing Associations(H.I.S.A.) contest season. Held at Banyans in pretty dismal 1-2ft surf, at least the conditions were good all day and the contestants were all doing their best to impress the judges. Organik Ambassador, Abraham Shouse took it down in the SUP finals with a first place win. Congratulations Abraham on your win!!! GOOD STUFF

Hilo Rain

It's been a while since the sleepy town of Hilo has seen rain like this. The lightning that was on display this evening was nothing short of spectacular and the constant rumble of thunder in the distance was quite soothing. The sky is glowing orange from the combination of the low level clouds and street lights. As much as this is supposed to be a storm, I find it quite soothing and relaxing. Hilo rain is always a welcoming comfort for me...reminds me I'm in paradise.

Here's my new mode of transportation in the new Honolulu city life I now live. I bike to the office, etown showroom and to some of our Organik retail accounts. My Globe Daily single speed is a 60's Dutch inspired design. The bicycle has a handy front mounted basket to haul Organik merchandise to stores or serve as a grocery getter at the farmer's market. I had the Bike Shop install a surf rack so I can avoid parking meters and the hassle of finding parking stalls on the South Shore of Oahu.

Peeping this little vid is has been the best ten minutes I spent all week. This video just blows my mind every time I push play! The artist, Blu's attention to detail is amazing as well as the grand scale of his work. I admire his art and creativeness... must watch from start to finish. as the video progressively gets more and more interesting.

NYE X NYC

I needed to get out NJ for New Years Eve. The celebration was spent with friends in Brooklyn and Lower East Side starting with dinner at Blue Ribbon. Following dinner, I took a cab to Against Nature atelier for a pre-party. I was in the presence of complete strangers except for the couple I was staying with. The group were complete rockers with everyone being in a band. 4 bands were present at the party and were ready to play so we all bounced to the NYE venue, Home Sweet Home. Again I stood out at the basement bar that reminded me of the punk music shows I used to go to as a kid.

I dropped off one of our new designs at Tee Tee Bar on Bethel St. in Chinatown Honolulu. Surf Stamp is a fresh new graphic printed on a 50/50 recycled polyester and organic cotton heather tee. Five recycled post-consumer plastic bottles are used to make this made in the USA tee. The Tee Tee Bar staff are super friendly and knowledgeable of all the brands they sell. The store is in major Christmas mode with their winter window display and Christmas tree with ornamental pics of all the brands they carry including Organik.

Big Island Hawaii Findings

I visited our friends at Kawaihae Surf and Sand this week and saw the new Organik inventory they received. Check them out in Kohala on the Big Island.

I stopped by Hula Moon Boutique in Waimea to see the newest location in Parker Square. They have lots of inexpensive women's clothing and men's Organik tees. Look for more Organik women's clothing very soon.

This is the coolest recycling center I have seen. It's completely made out of bamboo, just like some of our tees. It's also made locally on the Big Island.

Maui Weekend Getaway

I hung out with our Maui surf ambassador Erik F who took me surfing at a secret point break for 3 days of swells.
